Stewart Vanderwilt is the president and CEO of Colorado Public Radio, Colorado’s only public radio network serving a statewide audience. He joined CPR in 2018.
Vanderwilt is a leader in the public media industry, with more than three decades of experience at the helm of organizations across the country. He was the director and general manager of KUT 90.5, Austin's NPR station and KUTX 98.9, The Austin Music Experience for 18 years. While at KUT, he helped launch the station’s first news department in 2002 and developed “Texas Standard,” the national daily news show of Texas. He oversaw the opening of the KUT Public Media Studios in 2012 and launched the 24-hour music service, KUTX, in 2013.
Under Vanderwilt’s leadership, the newsroom at KUT earned more than 250 awards for journalistic excellence.
He has served as vice chair of the board of Public Radio International, a non-profit media company focused on extraordinary storytelling and journalism. He has also served on the board of Greater Public and the Station Resource Group (SRG).
Stewart holds a degree in business and marketing from Ball State University.
He is married to Stephanie Gaunt-Vanderwilt, a third generation jewelry designer. Their son Alex, is an Army veteran who served three tours as a cavalry scout.
