Stephen G. McConahey is currently chairman of SGM Capital, LLC, and co- founder and partner of Iron Gate Capital, a private equity investment firm. Previously, Mr. McConahey was president and chief operating officer of EVEREN Capital Corporation and its principal subsidiary EVEREN Securities, Inc. Mr. McConahey was a co-founder of the firm which resulted from a management and employee purchase of Kemper Securities in 1995. EVEREN became a public company in 1996 and was purchased by First Union Corporation in 1999. Previously Mr. McConahey held the position of Chairman of Boettcher and Company, a Denver based investment banking firm.
Earlier in his career, Mr. McConahey worked for the consulting firm of McKinsey and Company. Subsequent to that he received a White House Fellowship and then served as a program manager in the US Department of Transportation. Following that he served as a member of President Ford’s senior White House staff as Special Assistant for Intergovernmental Affairs.
Mr. McConahey received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.
Mr. McConahey currently serves on the board of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, the Denver School of Science and Technology, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver (past chair), the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and Denver Sports (past chair). He currently serves on corporate boards of Cal Dak International, Great-West Funds Inc., Guaranty Bancorp and IMA Financial Group. Previously he has served on the boards of First Western Trust Bank, Macquarie Pro Logis Management Trust, IQ Navigator, AMLI Real Estate Investment Trust, Denver Metro Chamber, Downtown Denver Partnership and the Greater Denver Corporation.
Mr. McConahey is an avid skier, cyclist, golfer, scuba diver, and fly fisherman.
